The Blu-ray disc has a higher storage capacity which is enabled by a blue laser with a shorter wavelength than the standard red laser used in CD and DVD technology.
CD and DVD both use an infrared laser with wavelengths of only 780nm (CD) and 650nm (DVD), whilst the blu ray disc utilises a blue laser with a wavelength of only 405nm. The benefit of having a blue laser with a shorter wavelength means it is possible to write smaller data pits and therefore vastly increases the amount of data on the disc.
2 formats are available:
Blu-ray discs are the next evolution in the disc media market and allow up to 5 times the data of a single layer DVD to be stored on a single recording layer.
They are also much more resilient, due to an enhanced polycarbonate protective layer, than current disc media such as CD and DVD and with the new inorganic based dye, archival life is greatly increased making them a much more reliable data backup medium than CD or DVD.
In our opinion, Infiniti is the highest quality Blu-Ray media available.
You will require a new type of recorder/burner that supports the new format and of course, some Infiniti Blu-Ray media to get you started
